GFP withdraws support to BJP govt in Goa

Panaji, July 14 (UNI): A day after sacking of its three ministers from Pramad Sawant cabinet, Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Sunday announced that it has withdrawn support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

In a tweet, Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and Former deputy chief minister Vijay Sardesai said the party had withdrawn support to the government and its MLAs would sit in the Opposition in the Assembly.

"@goaforwardparty has withdrawn support to Govt, We will sit in the #opposition & take up with people’s issues, we are well aware of their #grievances, Goa Forward will not let people down: @VijaiSardesai #Goa #assembly @BJP4Goa @BJP4India @goacm @INCGoa," he said.

After Assembly elections in 2017, GFP along with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three independent MLAs had extended support to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form coalition government headed by former CM Manohar Parrikar.

After 10 rebel Congress MLAs joined the BJP, GFP said it was in talks with central leadership of the saffron outfit. But on Friday the CM said he had asked the GFP ministers to resign and as they did not do so, on Saturday the chief minister removed the ministers from his cabinet, paving way for induction of three Congress MLAs in his cabinet.

The Monsoon Session of Assembly session starts from Monday.
