Patna, Jan 26 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): A senior BJP leader was shot dead in Bihar' Saran district, sparking tension in the areas on the Republic Day.

The incident took place in Manjhi locality of Saran.

Reports said some criminals knocked the door of the victim on Wednesday night saying their bike had developed a technical snag and they want help.

As the victim came out, the criminals overpowered him, took to an isolated place and shot him dead.

Angry villagers protested on the street after his body was recovered on Thursday morning.

The victim has been identified as Acharya Keshvanand Giri who had unsuccessfully contested assembly elections in the past.

Police believe political enmity could be the reason behind his killing.
