Gangster Atiq Ahmed gunned down two days after son killed in encounter in UP

Prayagraj (UP): Atiq Ahmed, the Uttar Pradesh gangster politician, and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were killed on Saturday while on their way to a medical check-up in Uttar Pradesh.

Atiq Ahmed was in jail and had 100 crimnal cases against him. His son Asad Ahmed and aide Ghulam were killed in a police encounter two days ago on April 13.

The slain gangster's lawyer Vijay Mishra said Ahmed and his brother were shot at close range by someone in a crowd. Mishra claimed that he was standing with them when the incident happened, reported NDTV.

Mishra said two individuals have been arrested in connection with the killings, but the police have not released a statement on the matter yet.

Atiq Ahmed, who was convicted in a kidnapping case, was a former Samajwadi Party MP and was accused of being involved in the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal in 2005, as well as the killing of Umesh Pal, the murdered MLA's lawyer, earlier this year in February.
