Srinagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Police on Tuesday claimed to have killed a Pakistan based militant in an encounter in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, where a search operation is underway since Saturday.

With this, the death toll of militants killed in the encounter has risen to two.

A police official said with the first light on Tuesday morning, security forces resumed operation in Trumkhal area, in the upper reaches of Ganderbal, after suspending it last night due to darkness.

He said contact was again established with militants in the morning and during the exchange of fire, a militant, believed to be a Pakistani national, was killed. ''Huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the encounter site,'' he added.

He said the identity and affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained. However, he said preliminary investigation indicate that he was a Pakistani national.

A militant was killed after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Trumkhal area on September 28.
