Former Andhra Pradesh Speaker commits 'suicide'

Hyderabad: Former Andhra Pradesh Speaker Kodela Shiva Prasad committed suicide at his residence here on Monday.

The 72-year-old Telegu Desam Party leader hanged himself in his home.

He was rushed to Basava Tarakrama Hospital in a critical state but was later pronounced dead.

Prasad and his family are facing serious corruption charges after Jagan Mohan Reddy's government assumed power in the sate.

Kodela had a successful run as a politician, elected six times to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. He served as the Speaker of the Assembly from 2014-2019. He had held ministerial posts in the NT Rama Rao and Chandra Babu Naidu governments.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Opposition BJP have expressed shock at his death.
