Floods claim over 100 lives across India

In Kerala, the government has ordered forces to form rescue units and distribute food to stranded villages across the state.

According to Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddiyurappa, more than two lakh people have been evacuated while at least 30 have died in neighbouring Karnataka.

The state has suffered losses worth Rs. 6,000 crore and more than 1,000 villages in 17 districts have been affected due to floods resulting from heavy rainfall.

In Maharashtra, at least 30 people lost their lives so far while hundreds are still waiting to be rescued.

Kolhapur is one of the worst-affected districts in the state.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Sunday conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Belagavi district in Karnataka, which has one of the worst-hit areas, media reports said.

All schools and colleges in flood-hit districts will remain closed till Aug 15.

In Kerala, air traffic will resume at the Kochi airport at 12 pm on Sunday.

Here, at least 57 people were killed in the last three days. Nearly 1.66 lakh people have been evacuated to safety, said reports.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Wayanad constituency, which has been badly hit by flood, on Sunday.

“I am going to Wayanad tomorrow. Most likely for two days.  Spoke to PM, Kerala CM and have asked party workers to help," Gandhi had told reporters.

Kerala CM  Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said 1111 flood relief camps are operating across the state.

He said the camps are housing 124464 persons from 34386 families.
