Five rhino poachers held in Assam’s Biswanath district

Guwahati, July 7 (IBNS): A big attempt of rhino poaching was foiled by the state forest department and police in Assam’s Biswanath district last night. Five poachers were arrested.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, the Crime Investigation Range and Gamiri Range of Biswanath Wildlife Division with the help of Biswanath district police had carried out an operation at Borgang centre area and arrested two most-wanted rhino poachers identified as Arfan Ali alias Rehan and Sri Ramkiuba alias Zohn, while they were coming from Biswanath Chariali to Behali for poaching with a local poacher group.

Following their statements during the interrogation, the forest department and police team had arrested three more poachers from Behali area and they were identified as Mintu Hazarika, Tunmoni Saikia and Puniram Das.

Police and forest department team had seized mobile phones and other items in possession from them.

“We had conducted operation with the help of Borgang police and arrested two rhino poachers at Borgang centre, while they were coming from Biswanath Chariali to Behali. Following their statements, we had arrested three more poachers. Our operations against the rhino poachers are going on,” a forest official said.
