Five columns of army deployed across Assam and Tripura

New Delhi/IBNS: Five columns of paramilitary forces, two in Guwahati and three in across Tripura, NDTV reported, as agitators violated curfew and took to streets to stage protests, which turned violent in many places, .

Each column consists of 70 soldiers and led by an army officer.

The army staged flag march in Guwahati, the report said.

The three columns deployed in Tripura are consist of Assam Rifles soldiers and each column is commanded by an army officer, the report added.

The bill, which is now awaiting the President's ascent to become a law, will grant citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan on or before Dec 31, 2014.

The agitators said they are opposed to the influx of all refugees irrespective of their religions sensing a threat to their cultural balance and job opportunities.
