Farmer attempts suicide in AAP rally, later dies

New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS) A farmer, who had attempted to hang himself from a tree during a rally hosted by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, has died, reports said on Wednesday.

AAP volunteers , who were present at the venue, prevented him from committing suicide.

He was taken to a hospital. The doctors reportedly declared him brought dead.

The person was a farmer and came to the national capital from Dausa in Rajasthan, reports said.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot said: "It is a matter of shame that the farmer had to end his life during a public meet."

Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee tweeted: "Shocked 2 learn farmer hanged himself in presence of 1000s while Delhi CM went on speaking in "support of farmers"! It's inhuman! Shame!"

Addressing the rally, Delhi CM Kejriwal had blamed the police for inaction while the man was attempting to end his life.

The AAP is hosting the rally to protest against Centre's Land Acquisition Ordinance.
