Patna, Apr 5 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): A local court in Bihar has handed out 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a fake journalist accused of raping a schoolgirl.

The punishment was handed out by the Bhagalpur district court on Tuesday.

The accused Deepankar Verma had come into contact with the victim through Facebook. The accused, a resident of Kishanganj district, had introduced himself as reporter of a TV news channel.

In course of chatting, they began talking over phone after which the accused lured her and subsequently raped.

The case was registered in January last year after which the police arrested the accused from Darjeeling in May.

The court of ADJ-I Janardan Tripathi also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused. In case of the accused not paying the fine, his imprisonment will be extended for another two years.
