TMC Targets IPS Officer Over Viral Video

TMC MP Mahua Moitra shared a video on X purportedly showing Sharma dancing with a woman at a pub.

The video has not been independently verified by IBNS.

Taking a swipe at Sharma, Moitra wrote, “Fair & Lovely Babua @DripsAjaypal — good to see you enjoying yourself FantaCop style. Stay Thanda Thanda Cool Cool. Bengal is always Trinamool.”

Deployed Ahead of Crucial Poll Phase

Ahead of the second and final phase of voting on April 29, Sharma was flown in from Uttar Pradesh and appointed as a police observer in South 24 Parganas—considered a TMC stronghold.

Crackdown Over Intimidation Complaints

Acting on complaints of voter intimidation, Sharma on Monday visited the residence of TMC’s Falta candidate Jahangir Khan, a close associate of party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Khan was not present at the time.

Despite initial reluctance from locals and regional police to disclose the location, Sharma and his team tracked down the residence and reached the spot.

Stern Warning Issued

Surprised by the Y-category security cover provided to Khan, Sharma warned family members that any further complaints of voter intimidation would invite strict action.

“I would ask his family to make him understand. If we continue to receive reports of his associates intimidating voters, we will take appropriate action. He should not regret his actions later,” Sharma is heard saying in a viral video.

Akhilesh Yadav Joins Attack

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also weighed in, using the viral video to target the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

In a post on X, Yadav alleged the video had tarnished the image of governance in Uttar Pradesh and questioned the BJP’s claims on women’s safety, demanding strict action against the officer.
