'Eradication of Maoist terrorism': PM Modi says India set to see end of Naxalism
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated his government's mission to end Naxalism in the country, heaping praise on the country's security forces for leading the task of making India free from Naxal-Maoist terrorism.
The PM made the remark during his customary Diwali celebrations with the Armed Forces.
Modi, who has always celebrated his Diwali with the Armed Forces since he became the PM, spent Diwali this year with the Navy personnel onboard INS Vikrant off the coast of Goa and Karwar (Karnataka).
"It is due to the valor and courage of our security forces that the country has achieved another major milestone in the past years. This achievement is - the eradication of Maoist terrorism!
"Today, the country is on the verge of liberation from Naxal-Maoist terrorism," he said.
The central government is pursuing a comprehensive mission to make the nation free from Naxalism by combining firm security action with inclusive development.
Under the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the strategy focuses on dismantling Left Wing Extremist networks through coordinated operations such as Operation Samadhan–Prahar, while simultaneously accelerating development in affected regions through road, telecom, education, and livelihood projects.
The government’s multi-dimensional approach—integrating security, governance, and welfare—has significantly reduced Naxal-related violence and restored normalcy in most affected districts.
With violence declining by over 70 percent in the past decade and many areas witnessing peace and progress, India is steadily moving towards its goal of becoming completely free from Naxalism.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set March 31, 2026 as the deadline for making India free from Naxalism (armed Left-Wing Extremism).
