Encounter on between militants, security forces in Sopore

Baramulla, May 30 (UNI): An encounter has ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched on Thursday in the apple township of Sopore in this north Kashmir district.

Official sources said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a CASO at Dangerpora, Sopore, following a tip-off about the present of militants in the wee hours today.

All the exit points were sealed and house to house searches launched, they said, adding that when security forces were moving towards a particular area militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

They said the security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter. “Additional security forces have been rushed to further cordon off the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape,” they added.

Mobile Internet services has also been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours, they said, adding that the exchange of fire was going on when the reports last came in.
