Srinagar, Jun 11 (UNI): An encounter has ensued between militants and security forces in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Tuesday.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF launched a joint operation at Wadoora in Sopore in Baramulla on Tuesday morning.

When security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there fired at them with automatic weapons.

“The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,” an official said.

Additional security forces have been rushed to the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape.
