Encounter ensues between security forces and militants in south Kashmir

Srinagar/UNI: An encounter ensued between security forces and militants during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Thursday, a police spokesman said.

He said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Yamrach in Kulgam in the wee hours.

As the security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire. Security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, he said adding further details are awaited.
