Election Commission asks Telangana govt to suspend disbursement of farmers' aid

| @indiablooms | Nov 27, 2023, at 06:43 pm

New Delhi/IBNS: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked the Telangana government to pause the disbursement of the monetary aid to the farmers citing violation of the model code of conduct, media reports said.

The poll panel had earlier allowed the government to disburse the aid to farmers for Rabi crops under the ongoing scheme Rythu Bandhu Scheme but on one condition.

The panel had asked the government not to publicise it when the model code of conduct in the poll-bound state was in place.

The action comes after state finance minister T Harish Rao openly declared the money will be credited to the farmers' accounts.

Now, the ECI has informed the state electoral officer about its decision to withdraw the permission, which was given to the state government.

The panel has asked the CEO to convey its decision to the government.

Telangana, which is run by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), will go to polls on November 30.
