Eight injured in earthquake in Istanbul - Turkish Prez

Ankara, Sep 26 (Sputnik) Eight people were slightly injured in the Istanbul earthquake, some buildings were damaged, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), a magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred on Thursday in western Turkey.

"The strong earthquake in Istanbul, fortunately, has not led to serious consequences. Eight of our citizens were slightly injured, some of the buildings suffered minor damage, which is now being estimated," Erdogan told reporters.

Russia's consulate general in Istanbul said no Russians had been reported injured.
