Easing of restrictions underway, telephone lines to be functional by Sunday evening, says Jammu and Kashmir government

New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday informed that process of relaxation and easing of restrictions in the Valley was already in progress and most of the telephone exchanges will be functional by Sunday evening.

Addressing a press conference at Srinagar, the government spokesperson Rohit Kansal said that the 17 telephone exchanges have already been made functional.

“Jammu division landlines services are functioning normally, besides, mobile services have also been restored in five districts there”, he said.

He further said that the administration was closely monitoring the whole situation and so far no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the Valley. “The plying of public transport normally on the roads is a good sign and there are reports that the same has been noticed in rural areas also”, Mr Kansal said.

Providing details about opening of schools in the Valley, Mr Kansal said that primary level schools will open from Monday, besides, all the Government offices will start functioning normally from the same day.

Deliberating on the present situation, IGP Kashmir SP Pani said that the administration was calibrating the situation and in this regard easing done in gradual manner.

“So far restrictions have been lifted from 35 police stations which include North, South Kashmir and Central Kashmir”, IGP Pani said.

The`J&K Chief Secretary BVR Subramanyam had also announced that the restrictions will be eased out in a phased and orderly manner on Friday.
