Dzukou valley wildfire: One NDRF personnel died during ongoing firefighting operations

Imphal/IBNS: A NDRF personnel died during the ongoing firefighting operations in Dzukou Valley.

Assistant Sub-Inspector, Nongthombam Binoy Meetei of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) – a resident of Luwangshangbam Maning Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal East district, died on Tuesday while he was deployed in Dzukou valley for the ongoing firefighting operations.

He was found dead inside one of the base camps set up on the way to Dzukou valley.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted: “Deeply saddened on hearing the news of the demise of Asst Sub-Inspector N.Binoy Meetei of @NDRFHQ, currently deployed at Dzuko for the ongoing firefighting operation. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and pray for peace of the departed soul.”

The wildfire broke out along a trekking route leading to Dzukou valley on December 29 in Nagaland side and it spread across the border to Manipur on December 31.

Dzukou valley which is known for its natural environment, seasonal flowers, flora and fauna and a popular trekking destination, is located at the borders of Nagaland and Manipur.

On the other hand, Indian air force helicopters are engaged in the operation to douse wildfire in Dzukou valley.

Apart from the Indian air force, seven NDRF teams have also deployed in the affected areas of Nagaland’s Kohima district and Senapati district in Manipur to assist the firefighters.
