Drug addiction 3D problem-brings Darkness, Destruction, Devastation: Modi

| | Dec 14, 2014, at 05:13 pm
New Delhi, Dec 14 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared his concern over the drug menace in India in the third phase of his radio programme "Mann Ki Baat" and said it is a 3D problem which brings Darkness, Destruction and Devastation.
"Drugs brings 3 things. I call them 3D- Darkness, Destruction and Devastation," he said.

In his last radio session, he had invited people to share ideas and comments on the issue of drug menace.

The PM said drugs are something that can shatter anyone.

"When a youngster gets into this (drugs) we consider him or her bad. But the truth is the drugs are bad not the youth. This is a psycho-socio-medical problem and we need to see it this way," he said.

Modi through his radio programme thanked some TV channels who did programmes on drugs. "They expressed a concern on the issue," he said.

"Want to ask - perhaps for those few hours you feel it is a different life, free of troubles but where does the money you spend go," Modi asked the drug addicts.

"Have you thought- the bullet that has hit the soldier has the money of your drugs. We cannot help terrorists and drug mafia," he said.

"Sometimes with friends, people feel drugs are cool & it is a style statement. But this leads to serious problems," the PM expressed during his Mann Ki Baat.

He said people should have the courage to say no to drugs.

"Have the courage to say no (to drugs) and reject drugs. Tell your friends the same too. Bad habits don't start all of a sudden. It happens over time. Parents should study those changes happening & can save the children," he said.

"For good education children leave their homes & go to hostels for boarding life. There too this problem can happen. The letters I have got are inspiring and saddening," he said.

Modi urged celebrities including sportsman, film personalities, and people from all walks of life to spread awareness on the issue.

"On social media lets start a movement with #DrugFreeIndia. This can become a means of 'Lok Shiksha'," he said.

He also shared his happiness on the fact that the UN declared 21st June as International Day of Yoga.

"This is a matter of great pride for India," he added.
