Patna/IBNS: Amid the counting of votes for the US Presidential election, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda on Thursday claimed that what President Donald Trump failed was achieved by PM Narendra Modi as the latter "saved the country" of 1.3 billion people from coronavirus.

Addressing a rally in Bihar's Darbhanga, which goes to the polls on Saturday in the final phase of voting, Nadda said: "The results of the US elections are being declared and the allegation against Donald Trump is that he could not handle COVID-19 properly. But Modiji saved the country and its 130 crore population by taking timely decisions."

Nadda's reference was made to the ongoing US Presidential election process where Donald Trump is trailing behind Democrat challenger Joe Biden. The US President has been heavily criticized for months over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

America is the worst-hit country where the contagion has infected nearly 84 lakh and killed over 1.24 lakh people.

India, the second worst-hit nation by the Covid-19 pandemic, is 11 lakh cases behind the United States.
