'Democracies, when tested, fight back': Milind Deora makes 'cryptic' tweet on Emergency

New Delhi/IBNS: In a "cryptic" tweet on the 1975 Emergency which was called by his own party, Congress leader Milind Deora on Thursday said democracies always fight back when they are tested.

"The #Emergency reminds us that democracies, when tested, fight back resiliently. This also applies to political parties. Democratic organisations adapt better & overcome challenges. Democracy is a constant work in progress, requiring commitment, sacrifice & honest introspection," Deora tweeted.

The Emergency was declared in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Gandhi had to suffer a massive defeat after returning to the elections in 1977.

Deora, a former Mumbai Congress chief, has often spoken in a line which was different from his party's.
