New Delhi/UNI: Hours after Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections were held, several councillors created a ruckus inside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House here over the election of Standing Committee members on Wednesday late night.

The House was adjourned for one hour amid chaos between Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party councillors.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that BJP Councillors tried to attack the newly elected Mayor.

Sisodia tweeted in Hindi and wrote, "The BJP, which has lost the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, is now resorting to hooliganism in the Standing Committee elections. They have stopped the election of committee members for many hours and now the BJP councillors in the House have attacked the newly elected mayor."

Reacting to chaos inside MCD House, Delhi BJP unit working president Virendra Sachdeva alleged that AAP would not allow the standing committee members' election due to the fear of defeat.

"We were saying from the beginning that AAP will not allow the Standing Committee elections to be held after the mayor and deputy mayor elections and they have proved it that AAP will not allow the Standing Committee elections due to the fear of defeat," Sachdeva tweeted.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted regarding the ruckus inside MCD House saying, "This is absolutely shocking and unacceptable!"

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Shelly Oberoi was elected as the new Mayor of the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Wednesday.

In the mayoral election which was held at Civic Centre in Delhi on Wednesday morning, AAP’s nominee Shelly Oberoi got 150 votes while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee Rekha Gupta trailed at 116 votes.
