New Delhi, Feb 27 (IBNS) : In blow to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Delhi High Court on Monday denied parole to party MLA Mukhtar Ansari, an accused in a murder case, media reports said.

Asnari had sought parole to campaign for the party in the ongoing polls in Uttar Pradesh.

A mafia-turned politician, Ansari shifted to the BSP recently from the Samajwadi Party.

He,  along with his brother and son were given tickets to contest from Mau and Ghazipur constituencies respectively.

The court had earlier granted him parole but revoked it following Election Commission intervention.

The EC stated that it did not want to tarnish the atmosphere during the elections.
