Delhi government inaugurates Signature Bridge

New Delhi, Nov 4 (IBNS): The Delhi government on Sunday unveiled new Signature Bridge in the city, just days before people celebrate Diwali in the national capital.

The bridge will be open to the public from Monday.

The bridge was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Kejriwal shared an image of the beautifully lit bridge and captioned it as: "Badhaai ho Delhi."

The Signature Bridge, which has a 675-metre-long cable-stayed section,  has been built over the Yamuna River. It is expected to reduce traffic pressure and travel time in the city.

The bridge was constructed over a span of 14 years.

Four elevators will operate to take 50 people to the top of the bridge at a time.

The bridge will have a 154-metre-high glass viewing box, which is double the height of Qutub Minar.

Inviting public, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had tweeted on Saturday: "Delhi! Here is your pride ..The Signature Bridge ..Ready to welcome you tomorrow for inauguration ceremony.. 4pm onwards.. Sunday. 4th Nov."

The inauguration event, however, witnessed disruption as Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party workers reportedly clashed close to the venue.

BJP leader Manoj Tiwary was present at the venue.

He was quoted as saying by NDTV website: "In my constituency (North East Delhi.), I re-started construction of the bridge after it was stalled for many years & now Arvind Kejriwal is organising an inauguration ceremony."

Reacting to the incident, Kejriwal tweeted: "Unprecedented. Chaos by BJP at Signature Bridge inauguration site. Its a Del govt prog. Police mute spectator. Can LG, being head of Del police, ensure peace and order at Signature bridge inauguration site?."
