Delhi: At least four labourers die while cleaning sewage treatment plant at Moti Nagar

New Delhi: At least four four labourers died and after allegedly inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewage treatment plant at P Tower of DLF Capital Greens at Moti Nagar in West Delhi.

The incident took place at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Two others have been rushed to the hospital.

After being informed, four fire tenders and local police reached the spot and rescued six persons trapped in the sewer.

They were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, where four of them were pronounced dead.

The deceased have been identified as Sarfaraz, Pankaj, Raja and Umesh.

The remaining two are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and are said to be in critical condition.

"The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. After preliminary investigation, we are suspecting that they died of asphyxiation. We are waiting for the post-mortem reports," A senior Delhi Police officer told IBNS.

"A case has been registered at Moti Nagar PS and an investigation has been initiated into the matter to find whose negligence led to incident," the official added.
