New Delhi, Mar 25 (IBNS): In a major development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders will face trial in a criminal defamation case filed against them by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The case is related to the  Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) matter.

The Aam Aadmi Party leaders had accused the BJP leader of financial irregularities during his tenure as the president of the DDCA in 2000-12.

Jaitley then filed two defamation cases against the AAP leaders.

It included a civil and a criminal defamation case.

In a criminal defamation case filed against him by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, a Delhi court on Saturdayput Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to trial.

Kejriwal and other five Aam Aadmi Party leaders have reportedly  pleaded not guilty and claimed trial into the matter.

The hearing in the case will be next held on May 20.

The Union Minister  has sought compensation of Rs 10 crore from Kejriwal  for allegedly issuing false and defamatory statements against him and his family in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the DDCA of which he was the President  between 2000 and 2012.

Jaitley  had told the court that he did not receive any money for his services to the cricket body.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Raghav Chadha‏ said death threats were given to AAP leaders appearing in Jaitley defamation case.

"Death threats given to AAP leaders appearing in Jaitley defamation case, including myself,by lawyer on the other side in Patiala House Court," he tweeted.
