Curfew lifted, but Dimapur remains uneasy
Reports said police made more arrests through the night on Sunday in connection with the lynching that kicked up tension in the relation between Nagaland and Assam.
Internet and SMS services still remained suspended across Nagaland as videos of the lynching surfaced on the net.
The incident happened on last Thrusday, when Syed Sarif Uddin Khan, a second hand car dealer was dragged out of the central jail by a mob of thousands of people that broke open the prison's gates, paraded naked and beaten to death.
Khan, who hailed from Karimganj in neighbouring Assam, was earlier arrested on the charging of raping a Naga woman on February 24.
Rumours that Mr Khan was an illegal immigrant turned out to be untrue as his brothers are in the army and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also vouched for his Indian citizenship.
Gogoi also demanded that the medical report of the woman, who alleged that she was raped, be made public.
Police arrested 18 people last week in connection with the incident and made more arrests on Sunday night by identifying the attackers from the footage.
Assam witnessed widespread protest of the incident by local people, who are alleged that Khan was the victim of a cosnpiracy.
Khan's funeral was held at his hometown Karimganj on Sunday. It was attended by thousands of people.
