Curfew in Manipur's Churchandpur after three killed in violence

Churachandpur, Manipur, Sep 1 (IBNS) Three people have been killed and eight others injured after violence broke out in Manipur's Churachandpur town on Monday evening forcing the authorities to clamp an indefinite curfew in the area, reports said.

The violence erupted during a 12-hour Manipur bandh.

The houses of state Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and five other lawmakers were set on fire during the protests. Two persons were killed in police firing while one was burnt to death. He was an associate of a lawmaker whose house was burnt down.

Several organizations including All tribal Students Union Manipur, All Naga Students Association Manipur, Kuki Students Organisation called the bandh on Monday over the Inner Line Permit issue and protest against the few bills, which were introduced in Manipur Assembly on Friday.
