Crisis in Samajwadi Party : After phone call, Akhilesh Yadav meets father Mualyam Singh

Lucknow, Jan 3 (IBNS) : Amid the running factional battle for control over the Samajwadi Party, fraught with daily twists and turns, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday visited his father Mulayam Singh Yadav at his Lucknow home, hours after the two reportedly spoke over phone, media reports said.

Earlier in the morning Mulayam Singh returned to Lucknow from Delhi in a chartered plane following his talks with the son, who has emerged as his sworn-rival in the party with both leading two warring factions-one trying to outweigh the other.

Akhilesh Yadav, who seemingly has the backing of majority of party leaders and supporters to outnumber the rival camp, led by SP founder Mulayam Singh, replaced his father as party chief only a day after the father had first expelled and then re-inducted him into the party.

The 77-year-old patriarch, the unquestionable 'Netaji' or the supreme party commander  till the other day, has been leading the smaller camp with both being engaged in a bitter tussle for recognition as the legitimate Samajwadi Party-all happening before the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.

Mulayam Singh met the Election Commission on Monday to demand that the party symbol - the cycle - remain with him.

On Tuesday,  Akhilesh Yadav's mentor, Ram Gopal Yadav, meets with the Election Commission to present a counter-claim.

According to NDTV,  after the  morning phone call between father and son, there is talk within the party of a new attempt at finding a truce.

The call  was reportedly organised by senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, who also brokered a meeting over the weekend between Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh.
