CPI(M) suspends Rajya Sabha MP Ritabrata Banerjee for leading luxurious lifestyle

Kolkata, June 2 (IBNS): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) suspended its member Ritabrata Banerjee, who is also a MP in Rajya Sabha, at a party meeting on Friday over the complains received against him leading a luxurious lifestyle, according to media reports.

Banerjee has been suspended by the party for three months and also ensured that an investigation would be carried out following the complaints.

The parliamentarian was caught in a controversy few months back, when a CPI(M) leader Sumit Talukdar, who works in a Bangalore based company, pointed out on social networking site his costly pen and wrist watch that he was seen to possess while watching a football match.

Talukdar questioned Banerjee how he could manage to use Mont Blanc pen and Apple watch, which is completely against the party ideology.

Banerjee counter attacked the leader who accused him and mailed the Bangalore based company, urging to look into the matter.

Following the development, the Communist Party criticised Banerjee and warned him to stay away from these incidents.

The party secretary of the Bengal unit, Surya Kanto Mishra, refused to make any comment on the issue of suspending the 38 years old parliamentarian.
