Cow should be national animal, says Rajasthan High Court

Jaipur, May 31 (IBNS): Giving a sigh of relief to Narendra Modi government for the controversies erupted of late regarding its notification on sale of cow in the market, Rajasthan High Court said that cow should be made the national animal of the country, according to media reports on Wednesday.

However, the High Court has asked to create an understanding between the central and the state governments before announcing cow as the national animal.

Along with such proposal, Justice Maheshchand Sharma led a single bench proposed that those who kill cow must be sentenced to life imprisonment.

In the last week, the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a notification to stop the sale of cows in the market for slaughtering.

Several political parties including the ruling parties of different states had opposed such a notification and called it an interference in the freedom of choice of food.

West Bengal and Kerala governments have clearly disapproved such a notification to enforce in their states.

Rajasthan HC proposed during a hearing on the case related to death of few thousands of cows in the Hingonia Gaushala.
