Prayagraj/UNI: A woman affected by the novel coronavirus gave birth to a girl child at the Swaroop Rani hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj, Nodal Officer said on Thursday.

Nodal Officer Dr Rishi Sahai said that the pregnant woman, who hails from the Pratapgaye Salahpatti area, had earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to Pratapgarh's Trauma Center.

She was referred to Prayagraj after she complained of ill health on Tuesday and was admitted to the SRN hospital at night.

He said that under the leadership of Obstetrics and Gynecology specialist Dr Amrita Chaurasia, a team operated on the woman.

The child is healthy but since her mother is affected by the virus, the infant will be tested within 24 or 48 hours.

Earlier, another coronavirus positive woman had given birth to a healthy child. The infant had later tested positive.
