Madurai/UNI: Tamilnadu Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management RB Udhayakumar on Sunday said that the coronavirus situation is not bad and it has been contained in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing members of Tamil Nadu Association of Non-Teaching Staff of Aided College at Mannar Thirumalai Nayak College here, he said, even though COVID-19 has been declared a national emergency, the situation in Tamil Nadu is not bad and that it has been contained.

He said the government will exercise caution regarding public events, but we are yet to reach the stage where they need to be postponed. We do not want to cause panic among the public, he added.

The state has been procuring essentials like masks and sanitizers to be prepared and we are also receiving regular communication from the Centre about necessary steps to take preventive measures. As the number of patients have tested positive in Kerala, we must remain vigilant and ensure that the public should be educated on the virus.

Referring to Leader of Opposition M.K.Stalin’s remarks on the National Population Register (NPR) and asking the State to stall the process of beginning census, he said it is irresponsible remarks. We have only moved the notification to ensure that census takes place.

As the Home Minister Amit Shah says, the NPR will not brand anyone doubtful citizens if they have been Indian citizens. The people should stop panicking based on what the opposition parties says about the NPR, he added.
