Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay on Tuesday said that with 85 new positive cases in last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the state had reached 1344 while the death count provided by state government and the Union Health Ministry is still not matching with each other.

According to Union Ministry of Home and Family Welfare (MoHFW)'s Tuesday update, West Bengal's Covid death toll is 133 while state Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay on the same day claimed that the number of deaths caused by the virus in Bengal had mounted to 68 with seven fatalities were recorded in last 24 hours.

Bengal Home Secretary said that there were 940 active Covid-19 cases in the state while 264 patients had recovered from novel coronavirus till date, with 46 persons were discharged after treatment in last 24 hours.

"With 2455 tests were conducted in past 24 hours, West Bengal has tested 27571 samples so far," Alapan Bandyopadhyay said.

"Presently, 4712 persons are kept in government quarantine centres while 5561 people are under home surveillance in the state," Bandyopadhyay added.

Meanwhile, after India recorded the biggest rise in the new Covid-19 cases as well as number of fatalities, the Centre has blamed delay in reporting cases by few states.

"The Centre has found gaps in some states and then persuaded them to bridge this gap, and after this, the cases have been reported and we have seen spike in death cases today,” MoHFW Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said on Tuesday during a media brief in New Delhi.

“Timely reporting and management of Covid-19 cases is very crucial,” Agarwal added.
