COVID-19: Assam district extends home quarantine period

Guwahati/UNI: The Hailakandi district administration of Assam has extended home quarantine period from 14 days to 28 days to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

An order to this effect was issued by District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli yesterday, an official source said here today.

Exercising power vested under Section 34 (C) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Jalli said in view of the present situation arising out of novel Coronavirus pandemic globally and in the country, the home quarantine period has been further extended from 14 to 28 days for persons coming to Hailakandi district from affected or vulnerable areas as a preventive measure.

“Any person knowingly disobeying any quarantine rules will be booked under Section 271 of the Indian Penal Code,” the order warned.

The number of persons under home quarantine in the district is 1,554.

Altogether 45 swab samples have been taken, including 18 on Sunday.

As many as 26 positive cases of COVID 19 have been detected in the state so far, though there are no cases in Hailakandi district so far.
