Covid-19: Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya temple won’t be celebrated in a festival manner this year

Guwahati : In this year also the annual Ambubachi Mela will not be celebrated at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati in a festival manner due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state.

The temple management authority said that, in view of current COVID-19 pandemic situation the annual Ambubachi Mela won’t be celebrated in a festival manner, however the customary rituals will be continued and the mela will only be observed behind the door.

The temple management authority also said that, the doors of the historic temple will remain closed till June 30.

Kabindra Prasad Sarma – Doloi (head priest) of the historical temple said that, this year’s Ambubachi Mela will be observed behind the doors and only the rituals will be performed in the temple which will be started from June 22.

“Pravritti of the Mela will be performed at 2-06 pm on June 21 the nivritti to be performed at 2-29 am on June 26. We will only perform the customary rituals, not celebrate the mela in a festival manner,” Kabindra Prasad Sarma said.

Due to COVID-19 situation, the Ambubachi Mela was not celebrated last year also.
