COVID-19: 37 CISF personnel posted at Kolkata's Garden Reach Ship Builders test positive in last 24 hours

Kolkata/IBNS: Officials in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Wednesday said that 37 of its men, who were posted at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSEL) in Kolkata, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the number of personnel infected with Covid-19 in the city to 39.

According to reports, test reports of 37 CISF personnel, who were staying in the same barrack at GRSEL, came positive on Tuesday.

Officials said that the CISF barrack has been sealed and efforts to disinfect and sanitize the entire barrack is underway.

"Till May 13, 109 CISF personnel have tested Covid positive, and of the 109 personnel, 39 are from Kolkata, 32 from Mumbai, 31 from Delhi, five from Ahmedabad and two are from Greater Noida," a CISF official said.

Earlier on Monday, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of CISF, who was also posted at GRSEL in Kolkata, succumbed to Covid-19.

So far, CISF has reported three Covid fatalities in its unit— two in Kolkata and one in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, 41 policemen in West Bengal, including 20 from Kolkata Police and 21 from Howrah police, have tested positive for coronavirus till date while the number of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the state infected with Covid-19 has reached 13.
