New Delhi, Oct 7 (IBNS): A local court on Wednesday granted bail to AAP lawmaker Somnath Bharti in connection with the domestic violence and attempt to murder case .

The case was lodged against him by his wife Lipika Mitra.

After evading arrest for nearly a week, Bharti surrendered at Dwarka (North) police station
last month.

Lipika Mitra, whom  Bharti married in 2010, has accused him of beating and torturing her. She has alleged that he once tried to strangle her and unleashed his dog on her  when she was pregnant.

Embarrassed by the happenings that threatens to sully the party's image, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted: "Somnath shud surrender. Why is he running away? Why is he so scared of gng to jail? Now he is becoming embarrassment for party n his family."
