Coronavirus: Several Indian leaders including PM Modi and President Kovind decide to skip Holi Milan gatherings

New Delhi/IBNS: Several political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind have cancelled their 'Holi Milan' gatherings citing experts advise to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said he would not take part in any programme related to festival Holi.

The Prime Minister tweeted, "Experts across the world have advised to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Hence, this year I have decided not to participate in any Holi Milan programme."

President Ramnath Kovind, too, decided to keep away from gatherings on the occasion of Holi.

Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to the people to avoid mass gatherings to help prevent spread of deadly coronavirus.

Earlier, in the day Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also announced that he will not participate in any Holi Milan programme amid Coronavirus spread.

On Wednesday, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan confirmed 28 cases of novel coronavirus India. While the government is taking all measures to contain the spread of the deadly infection, health experts across the world have asked people to avoid public gatherings among other precations.

Coronavirus, which had originated in China's Wuhan late last year, has already spread to over 60 countries with Italy becoming the new hub of the outbreak.
