Congress out of power in Puducherry as CM Narayanasamy loses confidence vote

Puducherry/IBNS: The Congress government in Puducherry on Monday collapsed as Chief Minister V Narayanasamy lost the confidence vote, causing more trouble to an already crisis-ridden grand old party.

The government collapsed after a series of resignations of ruling MLAs including one from DMK.

While the majority number in the assembly is 14, the Congress now lags behind at 11.

Last week, Puducherry LG Kiran Bedi had resigned, something which the Congress government had demanded for a long time.

The Congress had alleged Bedi was instrumental in defecting its MLAs, giving an edge to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Narayanasamy, who had earlier claimed to enjoy the majority in the house, has now accused the BJP and NR Congress of topping his government after submitting resignation.

With few weeks left for the assembly polls in the state, all eyes on the Governor now whether she calls any other party to form the government or impose a Presidential rule for the remainder of the term.

After losing power in Puducherry, the Congress is now in power in five states either alone or in an alliance.

In the two-three years, the party had lost power in states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh following resignation by the ruling MLAs.
