New Delhi/IBNS: Prior to the beginning of the parliament's winter session on Monday, jailed former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said his party Congress must lead the Opposition in exposing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre's "utter mismanagement of the economy".

On behalf of Chidambaram, his family has put up a tweet, "I have asked my family to tweet the following on my behalf: When Parliament opens today, @INCIndia must lead the Opposition to expose the utter mismanagement of the economy. Which aspect of the economy is doing well? Not one."

A separate tweet reads, "Government seems knowledge proof and refuses to accept valid criticism and genuine advice."

The winter session of the parliament began on Monday and will continue till Dec 13.

Before the beginning of the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I thank all parliamentarians for their active participation the parliament and hope this session will also give pace to the country's development and will lead India to match up with the development of other countries."

"I had the opportunity to meet all opposition leaders last day. The last session of the parliament was full of unprecedented achievements which are credited to each and every parliamentarian," the Prime Minister said.

Chidambaram is presently in Tihar jail here over his alleged connection with the INX Media case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered an FIR in the month of May 2017 over alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of ₹305 crore in 2007, when Chidambaram was Finance Minister.

The CBI arrested Chidambaram from his residence at New Delhi on Aug, 21.
