Congress leader Ghulam Rasool Kar passes away

Srinagar, Apr 10 (IBNS) Congress leader and member of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Ghulam Rasool Kar passed away late Thursday night here in Srinagar Medical Hospital, his family said.

He was 96.

Born in Sopore town in north Kashmir in 1921, the leader became a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 1951. 

He was nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha in 1984 and served till 1987.

He was elected as Member of Parliament in year 1996. He has served as state chief of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh congress Committee.

According to reports soon after his death, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Saif ud din Soz, Ghulam Ahmad Mir and local MLA Ab Rashid Dar rushed to his residence and condoled the family and took part in a funeral prayer.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Chief Minister Mufti Sayed, Omar Abdullah, Governor NN Vohra and National Conference Patron Farooq Abdullah condoled the death of leader and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
