Congress had turned UP into a sick state: Yogi Adityanath
Lucknow, Mar 19 (IBNS): Slamming the opposition for its misrule in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said Congress had made the northern state "sick" as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government completed its two years in power.
Addressing a press conference, Adityanath, who became the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister in 2017, said: "Congress had ruled the state for maximum number of years since independence. But the party had made the state sick."
"SP and BSP also ruled for seven terms all together but they led the state to misrule," Adityanath added hitting out at his main challengers.
Highlighting his stern action to combat misrule, the Chief Minister said: "No riots, no abduction, no acid attacks took place in these two years of BJP government."
How BJP came to power in 2017?
Riding on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's charismatic campaign, the BJP stormed into power by winning 325 seats, defeating the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Congress alliance, which had managed to get only 54 in the 2017 Assembly polls.
Adityanath as CM was a surprise pick:
Though the campaign for the BJP was primarily led by Modi and state unit chief Keshav Prasad Maurya, Adityanath was picked for the Chief Minister's post days after the election results.
Then MP from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur constituency, Adityanath had to resign from his seat to become the Chief Minister.
