CM Naveen Patnaik, other state leaders file nominations in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Mar 25 (UNI): Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik, leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, BJP Odisha state president Basanta Panda, former railway minister Bhakta Charan Das were among several others who filed their nominations for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha.

Chief electoral office sources here said altogether 207 today filed nomination papers for the first phase Assembly elections to 28 Assembly seats.

Similarly, 22 candidates filed their nomination papers for the first phase Lok Sabha elections to four seats.

With these, so far 245 candidates filed their nomination for first phase elections to the Assembly seats and 30 candidates for the four Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Today was the last day for filing nomination for the first phase election for both Assembly and Lok Sabha in Odisha. The nomination for the second phase elections to five Lok Sabha seats and 35 Assembly seats will be closed tomorrow.

CEO sources further said as many as 104 candidates filed their nomination for the second phase of elections on April 18 for five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly seats.

So far 96 candidates have filed their nomination papers for 35 Assembly seats and 21 candidates for five Lok Sabha seats.

The chief minister, accompanied by several of his party leaders, today filed the nomination papers for the Bijepur Assembly seat at the Padampur sub-collector office in Bargarh district.

On March 20, Naveen had filed nomination for the Hinjli Assembly seat from where he has consecutively won four times since 2000.

Both the Hinjili and the Bijepur Assembly seats will go to poll in second phase of election on April 18.

Among other prominent leaders who filed their nomination papers today were leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra (Balangir Assembly seat), Odisha minister Surya Narayan Patro (Digapahandi Assembly seat).

BJP Odisha unit president Basant Panda filed his nomination for the Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat, BJD Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya filed his nomination for Baragarha Lok Sabha seat.

Odisha Minister and BJD leader Rabi Nanda and Opposition chief whip and Congress leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati filed their nomination for the Koraput Assembly seat.

Former Odisha Minister and BJD leader Sarada Naik filed nomination for the Rourkela Assembly seat and BJP legislature party leader K.V. Singh Deo filed nomination papers for the Patnagarha Assembly seat.
