Citizenship (Amendment) Bill tabled in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

The bill was passed by Lok Sabha on Monday midnight with 311 votes in favour of it. 

Eighty MPs had voted against the bill.

Despite lacking majority, the BJP is likely to sail through in Rajya Sabha with the help of several regional parties. 

The bill will grant citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees came to India from neighbouring nations Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan on or before Dec 31, 2014.
