CISF takes over security at Jammu Airport

Jammu/UNI: The Central Industrial Security Force on Friday officially replaced Jammu and Kashmir Police to take over security at Jammu Airport.

Airport Director Pravat Ranjan Beuria here said, "the induction of CISF at Jammu Airport was made this morning with a ceremonial welcome given by Airport Authority of India along with farewell to J&K Police and CRPF."

Dr Beuria handed over the security key to CASO, CISF Gurjeet Singh, in the presence of Inspector General of CISF Vikram Singh Mann and Air Commodore AS Pathania, AOC, IAF Jammu and other senior officers of Airlines, CRPF, J&K Police.

Jammu and Kashmir Government on January 17 issued an order asserting that two sensitive airports at Jammu and Srinagar are to be "handed over" to the CISF.

In view of security threats, the airports in Srinagar and Jammu brought under the security cover of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) like elsewhere in the country, replacing the present security cover of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir police.

This comes in the wake of the arrest of DSP Davinder Singh along with two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists.

An order issued by the J&K government earlier read, "This issue has acquired immediacy in view of the recent developments relating to the arrest of Davinder Singh, DSP airport security, for trying to assist militants to travel to other parts of the country."

J&K Police and CRPF were looking after security of Jammu Airport for more than three decades.
