Circulation of local women's morphed images triggers clash in West Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 22 (IBNS): People of two local groups on Wednesday engaged in a clash with each other at Mathpara area under Nadanghat Police Station limits in West Bengal's East Burdwan district over an alleged circulation of 'super-imposed' pictures of few local women, reports said.

Recently, several 'super-imposed' vulgar images of at least 13 local women went viral on social media platforms following which residents of Mathpara village caught a suspect, who was identified as Baki Sheikh, in connection with the incident.

On Wednesday morning, local villagers and followers of Baki Sheikh engaged in an altercation with each other and it turned into a violent clash very soon.

People of both groups attacked each other with sticks and rods while several houses at the village were vandalized and several crude bombs were allegedly hurled during the hour-long tussle.

At least 20 persons, including few women and children, were injured in the brawl and they were admitted in Kalna Sub-Divisional hospital.

Later, a heavy police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

Local police said that at least 10 persons of both the fighting groups have been detained and a probe has been initiated into the matter.
