CGM meets to review security situation in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 13 (IBNS) A Core Group Meeting (CGM) between the army, police and paramilitary forces was held at Badami Bagh here on Saturday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar city, a defense communiqué said.

The meeting was co-chaired by Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC Chinar Corps and Security Advisor, and K Rajender Kumar, Director General, J&K Police.

The meeting was attended by the senior officers of Army, Police, CRPF, BSF, intelligence agencies and civil administration, the communiqué said

  “The meeting deliberated on the overall security situation, the plans to ensure a robust counter infiltration grid along the LC and counter terrorist grid in the hinterland were discussed. Special emphasis was given to ensure extensive security measures for the Amarnath Yatra, “it added.

“Expressing happiness on the synchronization of actions amongst various intelligence agencies, Lt Gen Subrata Saha also lauded the coordination amongst different security agencies; he also emphasized on maintaining a high level of preparedness to deal with natural disasters and highlighted the need for all stake holders to be concerned about environmental issues,” a Defense spokesman said.

Echoing similar sentiments, K Rajendra Kumar spoke about the deployment of additional CAPF and their orientation for which all agencies were working together.

The DGP assured the gathering on the effectiveness of law and order control measures in place.

Further proactive measures to prevent recurrence of recent attacks on mobile tower operators and civilians as witnessed in Sopore area was discussed.

“All agencies conveyed their reassurance to the people of Kashmir that their security will be well looked after so that they can carry on with their daily lives without fear.  A similar assurance was given to the tourists who are visiting the beautiful valley of Kashmir,” the spokesman added.
