New Delhi/UNI: Amid jump in Covid 19 cases in the country, the Centre has asked all States and Union Territories (UTs) to enforce coronavirus safety measure strictly including wearing of face masks, hand hygiene and social distancing.

In a letter written to all Chief Secretaries and Administrators of UTs on Friday, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said in view the fresh surge of cases and upcoming festivals, it will be important to ensure compliance of the Guidelines and to strictly enforce COVID appropriate behaviour besides following the ‘National Directives for COVID-19 Management’.

“After the steady decline in COVID-19 cases for about five months, the number of COVID cases have spiked in the last few weeks in several parts of the country. Flouting COVID norms by the people, especially in the crowded places has triggered a fresh wave of infection in the country,” Mr Bhalla said in the letter.

The Union Home Secretary also urged the States and UT administrations to take necessary measures to make people aware of the importance of COVID appropriate behaviour along with necessary actions for its strict enforcement of all COVID guidelines.
